As Heritage Month draws to a close Warrington Wolves Chairman, Steven Broomhead presents Susan White and family with the Guinness World Record for the World’s Oldest Sports Shop. Here we take a look back at some of the other highlights from Warrington Wolves Heritage month in May.

The month kicked off with the inaugral Wire2Wolves Beer Festival. Over 700 people attended over the two days, including several of our past players. Visitors sampled over 50 real ales and ciders with all funds raised going towards the continuation of the Wire2Wolves Heritage Project, celebrating the rich history of the club and the transition from ‘Wire’ to ‘Wolves’.

Wire2Wolves beerFormer Warrington player Joe Whittaker had the honour of pulling the first pint and opening the Festival, an honour for a man who worked on the site from the age of 14. He relived his memories of the former brewery and encouraged others to share their memories of their much-loved club.

Briers HeritageNext we celebrated the all-conquering 1974 team who lifted five pieces of silverware with Alex Murphy OBE at the helm. The Wolves faced Catalan Dragons in Round 12 winning 42-10. We launched our Heritage Shirt featuring the heritage numbers of all Warrington players to have pulled on the primrose & blue jersey. These have flown off the shelves as you proudly wear your memento of our club history.Wilderspool Last Game

Wilderspool closed its doors for the last time on Thursday 15 May as the Under 16s Academy took to the pitch in the last ever game at the club’s former ground. 800 supporters were there on the night to watch as the Wolves’ side defeated Cumbria to end the stadium’s history with a victory.

Magic Weekend FansHeritage Month then went on the road for two weeks; firstly with a trip to the Etihad Stadium as you, our fans, made new history with your support at Magic Weekend, and then away at Wakefield as the 2014 Super League campaign reached the half-way point.

Friday night at home to Leeds Rhinos brought the curtain down on the club’s heritage celebrations with club Chairman, Steven Brommhead presenting the current White family with the Guinness World Record for the World’s Oldest Sports Shop, Whites Sports Shop, Warrington.
